Faith Formation - Youth

Parish School of Religion

The Parish School of Religion serves children in grades one through eight that do not attend the parish school. Volunteer teachers are trained as catechists and use approved materials to instruct the students in our faith. Grades one through five meet every Wednesday from mid-September to mid-May from 4:00 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. Grades six, seven and eight meet every Sunday from mid-September to mid-May from 6:45 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Individual accommodations can be made for those students who cannot attend classes as they are scheduled.  For more information, contact Suzanne Emsweller, 451-2855.

SACRED - Saint Andrew Children’s Recreation Education Days

Beginning in 2001, St. Andrew introduced a vacation Bible school for children preschool through sixth grade. The program is scheduled to occur in the summer, Monday through Thursday, 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. In addition to adult leaders, the program also includes teen helpers seventh grade and up. The curriculum varies from year to year and themes encompass age-appropriate Catholic teachings. All are welcome. For more information or to volunteer, contact Jennie Statczar, 451-7897.

Saint Andrew’s Youth Group

The goal of the youth group is to give teenage parishioners another way to enrich their Catholic identity by connecting with other Catholic teens within the St. Andrew Parish Community while providing them with a deeper understanding of Catholicism, and to grow closer to Christ. In 2009, the youth group began to include parish youths enrolled in 7th and 8th grades.   This exciting addition to the program compliments the high school youth group that consists of teens, grades 9-12. The two programs meet on different days and are involved in different activities. To date, the 7th and 8th grade participants have met for fun after school activities & study tables during the week and a bon fire and movie night on the weekend. The high school members have enjoyed movie nights, Sunday get-togethers, and service projects. All are welcomed and encouraged to come to any or all of the events! For more information, contact Kelley Martin, 459-1402, Ext. 2.

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

This program serves children from preschool through fourth grade in the Parish School of Religion.  It is based on the Montessori concept and emphasizes faith formation within a prepared environment called the Atrium.  The children work with models of altar materials, infancy narratives and parables to deepen their relationship with Jesus and the Good Shepherd.  Pre-school classes meet every Thursday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.  Kindergarten classes meet on Sunday from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.  Time in the Atrium is scheduled as a regular part of first, second, third, and fourth grade PSR classes.  The Catechesis serves as a supplement for traditional religious education in the school program for kindergarten through grade four.  For more information, contact Suzanne Emsweller, semswell@cdeducation.org or 451-2855.
